Game Recap ~ July 7, 2007

Another picture perfect day on the pitch ... 23-24 players attended for full field 11v11 play, with a couple of much-needed subs available for each team. The White Team started off the scoring with some relentless attacking pressure, resulting in an own goal to their advantage ... The Dark Team promptly responded with two goals by Peter, including a header from a well-placed corner just beyond the reach of a diving keeper.

Arthur Joseph made his own bid for Player of the Match, knocking in two, including his soon-to-be famous Squibbler Seeing-Eyed-Dog Shot, which banked off the near post, spun in and around several defenders, before meandering into the far side netting. Man U is reportedly keeping an eye on this one as a possible off-season replacement for Christiano Ronaldo.

Just in for the weekend, Angela G. showed off a soft touch and some fine footwork, before drilling one in from just outside the 18 ... only to see the Dark Team answer right back, with Brint C. knocking in a rebound from a misplayed corner. Strong midfield play and stingy defense otherwise kept the scoring in check ;)

The Evendale FC Rules

The Evendale FC is a co-ed, weekly RECREATIONAL pickup soccer match, intended for adults who want to enjoy a reasonably "competitive" game for fun and exercise. There are dozens of competitive soccer leagues in town (indoor and outdoor) ... this is not one of them. We strictly enforce the following rules, which are designed and intended to reduce and prevent injuries to our players:

1. No Slide Tackling. There is no slide tackling of any kind, from any directions. Stay on your feet at all times.

2. No Challenges from Behind. Players must be "goalside" of the player in possession of the ball before they can play defense or challenge for possession of the ball. In other words, once beaten, you must outrun the player in possession of the ball AND get goalside again before you can play defense. It is ALWAYS more important to avoid injury than to prevent a goal.

3. Caution on 50/50 Balls. If you and an opponent are running at the same ball in open space, BOTH players are expected to use caution and slow enough to avoid a collision. It is ALWAYS more important to avoid a collision than win possession of the ball.

4. No Charging the Keeper. Both players and keepers must use caution to avoid a collision, with priority given to keepers fairly calling players off of the ball. It is ALWAYS more important to avoid injury than to score a goal.

5. Fair Substitutions. Whenever there are subs waiting to play, please be courteous and take your fair turn to sub out. Subs should rotate back in every 10 minutes. The same is true with the keeper position. Please take your fair turn at the keeper position, when needed, except for Steve B., who is prohibited from playing keeper.
