After endless weeks of late summer heat, players arrived to near perfect game-time conditions for the inaugural Friday Night match ... moderate weather, a freshly cut and lined pitch, and more than 28 players lacing up their boots.
Once again, Justin R. started off the scoring with a wicked strike from outside the penalty area, burying a well-crossed ball into the upper right corner. The White team added two more and looked poised to run away with the match, before Two Goal Dan pulled out the stops and got, well, his two goals for the Dark team. Julie R. hit the mark with a left-footer, just inside the left post, with a well-struck ball. Tony M. made the Light team pay for some befuddling defense by Gus J. inside his own penalty area, to bring the sides even.
The second half was mark by a couple of spectacular goal. Lynne K. laced a corner kick perfectly, as teammate Theresa B. leaped above her defender to head the ball into the back of the net for "Goal of the Match" honors. Arthur Joseph made his presence felt, drilling a curving ball into the side netting from well outside the 18. "Next goal wins" time elapsed without a clear winner, and the match ended in another well-played draw.
