Game Recap ~ October 5, 2007

Well, promises of Fall temperatures proved to be fraudulent, as 20 players braved the early October heat to enjoy a relatively well-played match of 9v9 on a short field. The early scoring was a bit lopsided, as repeated attacks by the Dark team netted five goals, including a blast from Jody P. playing right striker. Scott S. made his inaugural league debut, netting one goal for the Dark team ... and later two more for the White team. With a few player adjustments, the White team came roaring back to draw the sides (roughly) even, including two bank-off-the-side-post shots by Matt and a seeing-eyed corner that meandered in for Norm. Excellent defensive play by Robin R., Pam, Heather, and Julie, with some fine keeper play by Andy H., kept the scoring otherwise in check ;) A terrific run and good time was had by all.

The Evendale FC Rules

The Evendale FC is a co-ed, weekly RECREATIONAL pickup soccer match, intended for adults who want to enjoy a reasonably "competitive" game for fun and exercise. There are dozens of competitive soccer leagues in town (indoor and outdoor) ... this is not one of them. We strictly enforce the following rules, which are designed and intended to reduce and prevent injuries to our players:

1. No Slide Tackling. There is no slide tackling of any kind, from any directions. Stay on your feet at all times.

2. No Challenges from Behind. Players must be "goalside" of the player in possession of the ball before they can play defense or challenge for possession of the ball. In other words, once beaten, you must outrun the player in possession of the ball AND get goalside again before you can play defense. It is ALWAYS more important to avoid injury than to prevent a goal.

3. Caution on 50/50 Balls. If you and an opponent are running at the same ball in open space, BOTH players are expected to use caution and slow enough to avoid a collision. It is ALWAYS more important to avoid a collision than win possession of the ball.

4. No Charging the Keeper. Both players and keepers must use caution to avoid a collision, with priority given to keepers fairly calling players off of the ball. It is ALWAYS more important to avoid injury than to score a goal.

5. Fair Substitutions. Whenever there are subs waiting to play, please be courteous and take your fair turn to sub out. Subs should rotate back in every 10 minutes. The same is true with the keeper position. Please take your fair turn at the keeper position, when needed, except for Steve B., who is prohibited from playing keeper.
