First Match ~ Saturday, April 5 at 8:30 a.m.

As Cristiano Ronaldo continues his historic campaign for Manchester United in the English Premier League, the soccer world turns its attention to the Evendale FC, where Evendale players have been hard at work, with off-season conditioning programs and extensive preseason training sessions ...

Okay, maybe not ... but we are starting our pickup games back up this weekend on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. at Evendale Recreation Field #3. We will generally play on Friday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. (at least while the youth teams are playing), but we are moving the game this weekend to accommodate the Evendale Easter Egg Hunt. Please post a COMMENT below and indicate whether you are IN or OUT for the game this week.

For new players, here are the rules for the Evendale FC ...

1. The purpose of the game is to create a fun, recreational pickup soccer game for Evendale adults and their invited guests. There are plenty of competitive soccer games and leagues in the Greater Cincinnati area -- this is not one of them. The game is intended for players of all skill levels, and new players are encourage to get involved.

2. Players are expected to play the game with more caution and regard for safety than a normal match, to avoid injuries to themselves and others. The "safe play" rules include the following: no slide tackling, no challenges from behind or through the legs, no charging the keepers, and use caution for 50/50 balls.

3. Players should bring WHITE and DARK shirts so that we can create balanced teams each week ... and we may "re-balance" teams during the game if necessary (players bringing only gray shirts or other "team ambiguous" colors will be required to play keeper ;) Players are expected to voluntarily sub themselves out during matches whenever we have subs, and to rotate through positions throughout the game.

4. Players should post a comment each week to indicate whether they are IN or OUT for the weekly match. This courtesy will allow everyone to see if there are enough players for full-field play (8v8 to 11v11). If you provide me with your email address, I will also contact you via email with any last-minute weather cancellations.

Looking forward to another season!!

Holy Smokes, Dr. John, you have half of our squad on the IR!!! We need a team trainer, an off-season conditioning programs (12-ounce curls excluded), or perhaps some of Roger Clemen's Vitamin B12 shots.

Joe R. is reportedly IN. I might be able to round up a few more. And the weather should clear.

See everyone at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow!!
