Next Match on Saturday, July 21, 2012
After a couple weeks of R&R, beach soccer, and way too many Corona's, I returned to find thirty (30) players for our weekly pickup match. Mind you, this is 9:00 a.m. last weekend, when the skies opened wide and poured buckets of rain upon a field full of players, with 4+ subs waiting to come in. Just a fantastic scene ... I have been fielding questions all week from curious, head-shaking observers, asking if I was part of the group playing "in the pouring rain." Of course, I was. In fact, with some many players, we skipped the half-time and played 100 minutes straight!
As for the match itself, it was a fairly high level of play ... at least until Michael laced a seeing-eyed dog passed me into the far post (the above-photo is what Steve B would have done, had I not just subbed him out). Michael and Rocket both netted two on the day. Strong play as well by David S., who would have had one himself but for the defensive efforts of the Italian Stallion, who pulled out a Series A special to save a goal. Outstanding play by a couple of newcomers as well, in a balanced, well-played match.
Our next match is tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. Please post a comment below and indicate whether you are IN or OUT for the match this week. Please remember to bring white and dark shirts, so that we can make even teams. Also, I have heard a couple grumblings about players not taking a fair rotation at keeper. So be brave, be daring, and take a fair turn at keeper, just 5-10 minutes is plenty, so that no one gets stuck back there (unless they want to, of course). Anyone who has observed my own "keeper skills" knows that the bar is very, very low indeed.
See you tomorrow. Jogo Bonito!!
